Summers Gone & The Water’s Heating Up!
Spring came and went and alot of fisherman put down their rods, calling it a year. Many of us fished through the summer, constantly thinking of the many big bites we had and knowing that the big bite would be far and few compared to the cooler 60 degree spring temperatures. Even with the sizzle and lack of rain the summer threw at us, we pressed on and awaited the time fall would arrive signaling the drop in temperatures and hot action on the water.
As the bass beging to make their transition up off of the bottom and back into the shallows, many techniques come back to life that had been largely succesful throughout the spring spawn. The reason for this is partly due to the fact that the bass are coming in droves to the shallows for one reason alone. Not to just mildly feed, but to gourge. They are going to go after their prey like there’s no tommorow. Predators with a mission.
With so many different techniques and applications coming back too life, I ask the question for you to comment on. What is your favorite go to approach for catching active bass during the fall season and where?

I wouldn’t ask the question without giving my opinion.
For me, the spinnerbait goes back on 3 or 4 rods at once. I prefer this because in the Virginia waters I fish, shad is abundant and being chased by the bass. I use the spinnerbait to imitate this.
My prefered presentation is to yo yo the bait. This allows me to cover various depth ranges on a single cast and give the appeal of a daggered or injured baitfish. All the mean while keeping the flash and vibration that lure the bass to the bait.

I use buzzbaits and Pop R’s in the morning and then switch over to CB’s and Spinners too. My N.C. lakes have not been pressured much because of the heat but the lack of rain has still applied uneeded stress on’em. Hopefully the fall can get’em going.

Hey Don, by the way. Where you fishin’ at up there? I have a buddy I visited a few years ago on Smith Mountain lake. The winter crappie fishing was awesome. Beautiful lake.
