Skeeter + Fishburne = Different BASS!
While I cannot confirm any of these details, this information was released by BassFan.com:
Two rumors hit the boiling point this morning. The first is that Skeeter has agreed to become a sponsor of BASS for the 2008 season and perhaps beyond. This has been rumored for quite some time, but the increase in chatter certainly bears mention. The second rumor is that fan favorite Fish Fishburne, who was let go by BASS in November 2004, will return as the BASS emcee. BassFan called BASS to ask if the company could confirm or deny the rumors. About Skeeter, a BASS official said: “We are in discussion with a number of potential sponsors, but we have nothing to announce at this time.” Industry insiders expected such a move from Skeeter as soon as it became apparent that Triton would no longer be the exclusive boat sponsor of BASS.
One interesting sidebar: If the rumor is true, the sponsorship could result in Skeeter being granted several provisional spots for its pros in the Bassmaster Opens. Word is that at a least a few Skeeter pros who fish the FLW Tour would like to dabble in BASS waters next year, and any potential for provisional slots could facilitate that.
About Fishburne, BASS didn’t deny the rumor. The same BASS official stated: “BASS is always looking for ways to enhance its onsite experience.” Clearly, something appears to be brewing there. BassFan did place a call to Fishburne seeking comment. Thus far, that call has not been returned.
This would clearly give BASS a new look next year. I am sure that Skeeter would be striking at the chance to become affiliated with the biggest fishing organization in the world. With Ranger having the FLW in a head lock and BASS seeing Triton drop to the Weekend Series, the only logical replacement due to marketing capability would be Skeeter, Basscat, or Nitro.
As far as Fishburne is concerned; I remeber voting a BASS Poll on their website a few months back about who was the best previous/current BASS Emcee. The winner of the poll was Fishburne by a landslide. This begins to make me wonder if that particular poll was serving a specific purpose. Things that make you go, hmmm!

Who better to MC than Fishburne. He’s always been a crowd favorite. He’s funny, entertaining and he knows his P’s & Q’s about Bass Fishing.
