McClelland AOY??
While Mike McClelland enjoys being one of only two anglers with 3 wins in the Elite Series (a title only him and KVD share) and the current leader in the Angler of the Year standings, you can bet that he is geared up and ready to further extend his lead over his competition.
The Arkansas pro was able to enjoy an extra week on top thanks to a week off before the next event. A lead that will not be easily taken as the tour heads into Clarks Hill Reservoir for the fourth consecutive season. An event in which McClelland has posted a 30th, 29th, and 1st place finish in the previous 3 events. Take into consideration that McClelland’s career has really taken off in the past year or two and we may need to begin to include McClelland into our “contender” conversations.
The rest of the schedule doesn’t play out in such a favoring fashion for McClelland, but nobody expected Skeet Reese to do so well during the northeast run last year. If McClelland can maintain consistency throughout the rest of the season, than his current 22 pt. lead in the standings may be enough to help beat off the rest of a pursuant field.
Here is your top 5 as it stands:
Mike McClelland - 1017
Todd Faircloth - 995
Mark Davis - 991
Dean Rojas - 970
Scott Rook - 963
*Notables: (6th-Skeet Reese 940) (13th-Kevin Van Dam 870) (21-Mike Iaconelli 801)
