“I’m still not happy about it”, Kevin Vandam told BASS media. KVD was referring to his 2nd place finish last weekend at the Southern Challenge on Lake Wheeler in Alabama. KVD was called out by Elite Series Pro, Jeremy Starks who told KVD that he was going to get beat for the most part. So how does KVD react? By catching 24-13 lbs. on day 1 of the Bluegrass Brawl on Kentucky Lake.
With many of the anglers raving about the fishing that is going on, the field is pretty tight with it looking like it will take around 30 lbs over two days to make the top 50 cut and around 52 lbs. over three days to make the final day top 12 cut.
There were also some unfortunate happenings. Paul Elias who believes that he has found the winning load of fish, brought 6 fish to the scales. “I probably caught 50-60 fish today and must have made a mistake in the maylay”, Elias said. Elias lost his big fish of the day with a 6-1 small mouth and compounded his penalties with a dead fish penalty. He is currently sitting in 6th with 20-4 lbs.
More bad news was had when Tommy Biffle received a ticket for fishing in Tennessee waters. Biffle unknowingly crossed the Tennessee state line and began fishing when he was approached by a state game warden who ticketed Biffle for fishing without a license. By BASS rules, Biffle’s day 1 catch of around 19 lbs. was dq’d.
Looks like we are being set up for a another great finish. To see the full day 1 standings, click here

Looks like KVD is gonna have a fight on his hands today with Rick Clunn to see who brings home the paycheck. Any predictions?

KVD’s the best closer in the buisness. I’d never bet against him.
