It’s True: Gerald Swindle & Toyota

by Don Zaegel on February 7th, 2008

In a recent write up I did that talked about Greg Hackney’s new deal with Advanced Autoparts, I noted about the surrounding speculation that Gerald Swindle (who was an Advanced Auto Pro) may be fulfilling the vacancy left by Greg Hackney. After a recent announcement, it has been discovered that the speculation was true and a “one for one” swap almost seemingly took place.
“Being credited by his appeal to Toyota’s target audience and a great on/off the water work ethic, Swindle seemed the perfect choice for the job”, said Toyota’s Kim Kyaw, as reported by BassFan.com. The deal is said to be a multi-year deal. Swindle’s new teammates include: Kevin Vandam, Dave Wolak, Terry Scroggins, and Mike Iaconelli.
Toyota has really been hitting the promotional side of professional bass fishing hard. In the absence of Citgo, Toyota has really stepped up and filled a huge void left by the oil industry giant. For that I say thanks to Toyota for helping to keep such a great sport great and going one step further to help make it better.

When Citgo left it opened a hole for a few sponsors to fill. Thats when Advanced, Toyota, and Triton all got bigger roles

Looks like Toyota’s really starting to hit it hard all over the place. They’ve made some big moves in NASCAR over the past 2 years, and it appears they’re trying to do the same in the fishing community.
