Former “Team Supreme” Owner Receives Sentence

by Don Zaegel on October 15th, 2007

I’m just going to come right out and say it. Keep your crooked scandals and corrupt business out of the sport fishing industry. The economy for sport fishing was created by anglers themselves, not to become lush living, investing, corrupt dollar hording sorts, but rather to create a market so that we can do what we love for a living.

Former owner of Team Supreme, Nevin Gillete has received his sentnecing after pleading guilty to wire and mail fraud. The Sauk Valley News reported that he had stolen more than $7 million from 55 investors in a long running Ponzi scheme. Gillete received 11 years in federal prison without parole and has been ordered to pay restitution in the form of 10% of his net income after being released. What did he have to say about it? “I’m sorry, I wanted my success to be greater than anybody elses”. You’ll need alot more than $7 million to do that.
