FLW Revises Co-Angler Rules

I have had this happen many times. I will drive to my spot, catch a bunch of fish and leave little for the co-angler to scrounge over. I have also had it happen the exact opposite where I have driven to my spot and had the co-angler out fish me in my own hole, but typically they only get what you give them. Normally after I have caught a limit I am comfortable with, I will give way for the co-angler to go where he/she wants if they are still in need of fish. I give them a chance to fish out of their spot. Somewhere they know fish are holding up. I never really mind because they are usually capable anglers who have a good fix on the lake too. Sometimes too good and this is what has sparked the change in FLW’s co-angler rules.

Rules have always been in place that allow Pros a certain dated practice period in most circuits. FLW had recently created one for their Pros and now one for the co-anglers they fish with. This gives everyone a fair advantage and an equal chance at finding fish. The way that many get around this is to have their traveling mates or co-angler buddies continue to practice and gather information for them. FLW says, No More!

The new co-angler rules will allow co-anglers the ability to practice on the water out of their own boat with friends, family, or whoever. The kicker here is that they are no longer allowed to take their boater to the spots that they have found during practice. The rational for this is because it should be up to the Pros ability to find fish, not the co-anglers.

I have thought about this rule since FLW announced it. Initially I sort of shrugged it off as whatever; but the more I think about it, the more I agree with the decision. I place myself back in some of the situations I had previously mentioned and see the advantage that I could have gained from such information.
