FLW Ditches “TTT” Efforts
There are not too many states that are able to host a regional level trail and have all the events in a single state. Texas however is the exception. With so many great fisheries abundant throughout the state, Texas recieves it’s fair share of attention from circuits both regional and national. I suppose a state can only handle so much though.
The FLW has announced its intent to discard the Texas Tournament Trail (TTT) for 2008. The TTT has been known by many of the anglers as a competitive trail with affordable entry fees and large payouts. Just what a tournament angler wants to hear right? When you measure that against consistent fields of 200 boats I believe it’s a safe assumption.
2007 also saw the introduction of the Texas Stren Series. The Stren Series is a well known trail for tournaments anglers to establish a possible touring carrer. With the success the trail has seen in other regions of the country, there is no doubt that FLW expected to see mirroring results from the new Texas Series in 2007. With just under 150 boats for each of the previous two events, the new Series was outshined by the TTT. FLW will take a new approach in 2008. By not bringging back the TTT, FLW will be able to consolidate its resources into the Texas Stren Series and funnel the the abandoned TTT anglers into the evolving Stren Series.
The cancellation of the TTT has not only left many anglers trying to re-formulate, but it’s supporting sponsors as well. While Pure Fishing (Berkley, Fenwick, Abu Garcia, Stren) has expressed their excitment and intent to be a part of the new series, they still remain uncertain as to what their role will be. Other speculation also suggests that with the cancellation, Ranger has shown its interest in sponsoring another Texas Team-Tournament Trail. The likley trail is said to be Bass-N-Bucks.
