Collegiate Bass To Impose A “Ranking Model”

by Don Zaegel on December 4th, 2007

How neat is it for the students going to college right now? If they are anglers or fans of fishing than it is pretty sweet and getting even sweeter. The sanctioning body over Collegiate Bass Angling is the Collegiate Bass Angling Association (CBAA). They provide various councils as well as sanction and host various Bass Fishing Tournaments and Championships. While still fairly young, Collegiate Bass Fishing seems to be taking root and gaining more and more momentum every year with the help of the CBAA and its sponsors.

Over this past year the CBAA organized an Athletic Advisory Council.  Composed of the angling student body, they are currently in the process of assisting CBAA leadership with the review and analysis of sports issues. They have also recently began to review the current ranking model.

While many different models are being sorted through and evaluated, most of the problems that they are facing have to do with an uneven number of boats in a team or a simple inconsistency in participation. The CBAA hopes to have the model ready to implement for the 2008 season but remains that they will post updates as the become ready and available.

Again, this is just one of the small factors that are going to help the fishing industry explode beyond what it already has become. I shouldn’t say it’s a small factor, but never before has fishing been able to introduce the sport to such a young crowd in this fashion. It will definiteley be exciting to see how the CBAA develops within the next 5 years.

I agree, but the BCS also drives fans away. If there was a way to see live feeds as they were fishing than it would be allot better too. Just like in Nascar when a wreck happens. The TV could be showing a certain angler and when another guy hooks a fish than they can switch to him live real quick.

I’m sorry, all I can think about anytime I see something about a Collegiate Rankings System is how the BCS screwed Mizzou out of a bowl game.
