Coble Earns A Shot At Lucky #3
It was at the beginning of last year that BASS had determined that it was no longer going to be acceptable for Pros to enter into its Weekend Series events. The rules were a little more explanatory than that, but the fact was that if you had entered into a certain amount of $1000 plus entry fee events, you were automatically exempt. The decision came from BASS after it received an uproar from Weekend Series anglers who saw a few Championship berths go into the hands of BASS pros like Jason Quinn and Jeff Coble.
Since that past year Coble didn’t qualify for the Elites or the Classic so he had to find an alternate means and the Weekend Series was it. Yesterday, Jeff Coble of Beaufort, North Carolina bested over 200 qualified anglers over a tough 4 day competition on Georgia’s famous Clark’s Hill Reservoir. Coble brought in day four limit weighing 14.43 lbs giving him a 4 day total of 40.89 lbs. and a berth to fishing most elite event, the Bassmaster’s Classic. Coble who had not led the event all tournament, brought in the 4th biggest sack of the tournament to surge him into 1st place on the final day. This will be Cobles third trip to the Classic and for him he hopes that the “3rd times a charm”. With Cobles victory, the field for the Bassmaster Classic is complete. Rounding out the rest of the top five were:
William Kemp - Scotland Neck, NC - 38.07 lbs
Mike Hicks - Goochland, VA - 37.98 lbs
Bobby Carter - Flowery Branch, GA - 36.04 lbs
Phil Addison - Baytown, TX - 33.17 lbs
Congratulations Jeff Coble on an outstanding win and Good Luck at the 2008 Bassmasters Classic!
