The B.A.S.S website has released the first 37 qualifiers of the 50 angler field that will make up the 2008 Bassmaster Classic. The event will be held on on Soth Carolina’s Lake Hartwell, February 22-24 The lake is known not only for puting out large quantities of bass, but a large quality of bass as well.

Included in the field will be hometown hero and runner-up in the “Rookie of the Year” points standings, Casey Ashley. Earlier in the year at the Blue Ridge Brawl on Smith Mountain Lake, an event in which Ashley won, he told B.A.S.S. stage analyst Keith Allen, “I told myself that this year the Classic is coming to your home lake, so you had better tighten up”. He did just that and will represent himself in front of a welcoming hometown crowd of thousands.

Also included in the field will be the defending 2007 Classic Champion Boyd Duckett who is coming off of an amazing year on the Elite Series. Duckett earned $837,500 in winnings this year along with an additional $10,250 for his finish of 11th palce in the AOY race.

Rounding out the other 35 qualifiers will be:

Skeet Reese, Kevin VanDam, Aarron Martens, Terry Scroggins, Jared Litner, Todd Faircloth, Scott Rook, Brent Chapman, Steve Kennedy, Tommy Biffle, Greg Hackney, Fred Roumbanis, Jeff Kriet, Gary Klein, Ishama Monroe, Cliff Pace, Peter Thliveros, Kelly Jordan, Chris Lane, Kevin Wirth, Stephen Browning, John Murray, Edwin Evers, Derek Remitz, Tim Horton, Takahiro Omori, Mike Iaconelli, Matt Sphar, Mike McClelland, Alton Jones, John Crews, Kevin Short, Mike Wurm, Gerald Swindle, Kotaro Kiriyama

The rest of the field will be comprised of the following TBD spots:

Bassmaster Southern Opens- 3 spots, Oct 30

Bassmaster Central Opens- 3 spots, Sep 29

BASS Federation Nation- 6 spots

Bassmaster Weekend Series- 1 spot

My pick: Never go against 2-time Classic Champ and 17- time Classic qualifier Kevin VanDam when it’s all on the line.
