Broken Spro Little John
After looking for this bait all over the place and finally tracking one down, this is what happened. Before you presume to think that I am going to moan and groan about my loss, let me just say that this is a dynamite bait. Sadly, I just was unable to really put it to the test.
The first day I had the bait in the boat I tied it on and began using it to cover some main river flats early in the morning. Within the first 30 minutes I had wrangled a couple of nice 2-2 1/2 lb class fish. Not a bad start to a calm and frigid morning.
As I pulled into a little pocket within the pocket (secondary pocket?) I made a long cast to what I would think would have been a sweet spot. As the bait zinged through the air toward its destination, it landed in the water busting. What a load of crap I thought. I just ponied up $10 for a bait to have it bust because it landed on the water!
Now I can take cases were I loose expensive baits because I lost them in a tree or some type of cover. I can even handle loosing them because a hawg pulled it off of my line. What burns me up is loosing it because of what may have been poor quality or just the bad egg in the basket. I didn’t look at the bait when I took it out of the package to see if it was cracked or anything before using it and it worked and shimmied just fine in the water. I also wasn’t casting it around any rocks or docks so I’m a little dumbfounded. In SPRO’s Little John video, John Crews talks about the fact that these baits were made with the old hand made wooden baits in mind but with more durability and then this happens.
After I retrieved the broken bait back to the boat, the nose of the bait (pictured) was still tied to my line and the back half sank itself to the lake bottom. I may end up trying another Little John in hopes that I may have just had a bad bait but I also might look down a couple more aisles before I spend my $10 again.

I would send what is left of the lure back to Spro with a letter explaining what happened. I have sent defective lures back to Terminator and Storm. In both instances they replaced the defective product and sent a few extra baits to compensate for the shipping charges.
I am sure Spro will stand behind their product. I would also mention your blog and tell them if they stand behind the product and resolve the issue to your satisfaction that you will blog about that.

Don,
We here at SPRO stand behind our products 100%. We will gladly replace your bait at no charge. Please send what you have left back to us for testing of the plastic for that particular bait. This is the first time that I have received a complaint like this for the Little John. Thank you for using our product and have a great day.

That really surprises me. i use the Cellmate color down in anywhere in Alabama and they crush it. I’ve had no issues with this lure and i have caught many fish on it. A possibility is sometimes the baits get steped or have something set on them and that can put a small stress crack in them that would be hard to see unless you looked at it real good. Another possibility is that there might’ve been a rock or stump right at the surface that you didn’t see and it hit. Spro seems to be willing to help you with this and that doesn’t shock me the least. Good company and great baits.

Just out of curiosity, did you choose to contact SPRO? It sounds like they’re more than happy to reconcile on this one.
