Bobby Lane Makes His BASS Entrance

by Don Zaegel on February 26th, 2008

“I’m just happy to be here”, Bobby Lane told BASS Emcee, Keith Allen after being unseated off of the hotseat by none other than Kevin VanDam during the Super 6 weigh-in. The 32 year old Florida pro posted a strong 4th place finish at the 2008 Bassmaster Classic last weekend. The finish definitely helped echo his name through the ears of BASS fans and validate himself as one to be recon with on the Elite Series trail this year.

Lane’s Classic success was had by focusing his efforts on a quick limit early in the morning with a Flew-it Jig Spoon in around 35 ft. of water and then cranking the back halves of creeks with a Rapala Shad Rap in search of cull fish and kickers. While brother Chris didn’t share the same luck, they were sharing some of the same early morning water. Lane’s pattern was as solid as anyone elses throughout the tournament. A tournament in which the bite became tough due to changing conditions over all three days of competition.

While Lane is no rookie by any means,  he will be an Elite Series rookie for 2008. He is also no stranger to BASS having qualified for both the Classic and the Elite Series through the BASS Southern Opens in 2007.

Lane has been a long time FLW Pro having competed in 80 events since 2002 while accumulating $327,679 in career earnings. His transition to BASS is one that will pit him against the some of the best competition in bass fishing. I think Bobby Lane will fit in well with the Elite Series. He will be a great face, ambassador, and representative for BASS.

Great Job Bobby and Good Luck in 2008!

I think Bobby is going to be on quite a few fantasy rosters in the next two Elite events, especially at Toho his home lake.

It was good to see Bobby finish so well in the Classic. There were times that I thought he might pull it off, but it just wasn’t meant to be, I guess. He should definitely have a few shining moments in the Elite series as well.
